Connect360 was not bad for xbox, they also do a PS version, but for straight media serving, Plex no question. If you need this its a mixed bag regarding codec support, and I found the issues with other servers made the solution less viable. From my perspective, I needed something to access my library, rather than rely on hardware specific transcoding. The only thing I can't comment on is transcoding I assume their clients manage this. Don't want to name names but I've pretty much tried them all. Plex takes a while to run through a big, say 3tb collection but it genuinely has been the most painless and reliable of all I've tried and the searchable options are far more varied and sensible than those for others. Press Command+Space and type Terminal and press enter/return key.

This may sound set up but save yourself the pain and effort and try Plex first. App name: Universal Media Server App description: universal-media-server (App: Universal Media Server.app) App website: Install the App. I have an iMac and MacBook Pro both running Mountain Lion, and the iMac now serves my xbox, wdtv live and archos 7 faultlessly. Plex server is totally free but you can pay for mobile clients. But then last week I found a poster who recommended Plex media server and its so good I'm trying to find the post and poster to thank him. Soon after the above v1.5.1 release, UMS got updated to v1.5.I've had this same frustrating hunt for ages, tried and found all of them to have serious issues either with usability or actual functionality. It is recommended (but usually not necessary) to uninstall the older version before installing the new one. For Windows users it is in ProgramData/UMS/. It is recommended to delete your UMS.conf file prior to installing this version. Tries to fix very occasional freezing issue Enables more CPU optimisations (runs faster) * Updated MPlayer and MEncoder for Windows to SB38, which: * Many improvements to the layout of settings * FFmpeg and FFmpeg/AviSynth engines now use the "Video quality settings" from the "Common transcode settings" page Well, just a few weeks after v1.5.0, he's back with another version, this time adding "Video quality settings" for FFmpeg and AviSynth (and more.)

It is actually an evolution of the "SubJunk Build" of PS3MS. Universal Media Server (UMS) by SubJunk, is a DLNA-compliant UPnP Media Server based on PS3 Media Server by shagrath. Universal Media Server gets updated to version 1.5.2. SubJunk is back with another update, adding new features and updating both FFmpeg and Mplayer.
